VW Seeks to Be Carbon Neutral In Production of Its EV

After its emissions cheating scandal last year, Volkswagen is looking to change its image, first announcing a new push for electric vehicles and now pledging to make the production of its first electric model carbon neutral.  That equates to reducing its emissions by 1 million tons of carbon dioxide a year, which is a good thing because according to GreenCarCongress.com, “the production of an electric vehicle currently generates significantly more CO2 than that of cars with a combustion engine—around 150% on average.”

Amazon Plans to Cut Shipping Emissions With Shipment Zero

Amazon announced in a blog on Monday an ambitious initiative called “Shipment Zero” — the company intends to have 50% of all its shipments be net zero carbon by 2030.  The company said that lower costs to consumers also means lowering the environmental toll of their business as well.  In order to achieve this goal, the company has spent two years mapping its carbon footprint, both to know what to measure against for reductions, but also to learn where they could reduce energy use.
