Today, President Trump is expected to meet with oil and gas industry executives from Exxon Mobil, Chevron, Occidental Petroleum and Continental Resources to discuss the outlook for the industry in the wake of an oil price collapse.
Trump sees himself as a moderator in the world oil talks between Russia and Saudi Arabia as well as a champion of the beleaguered domestic oil and gas industry. He told reporters Wednesday that “We don’t want to lose our great oil companies. You know, we’re the number one producer of oil in the world.”
Why This Matters: Trump has always been enamored by the oil and gas industry and perhaps their lobbyists and executives know how to cozy up to his ego–we can only speculate. But the truth is, the renewable energy sector is the source of the fastest-growing jobs in America and a shining example of our ingenuity, despite the fact that our President is hostile toward renewables. However, experts have said that the oil and gas industry faces the gravest challenge in its 100-year history and its executives will be lobbying the President for bailout money as if their lives depended on it. This means that the renewable energy industry and the cleantech sector must make its case to Congress and to the American people. Americans deserve a green future not a return to business as usual.
Coronavirus Stats: Yesterday, cases of COVID-19 topped 1 million around the world and in the United States cases continue to grow and skyrocket in cities like New York.
And as Buzzfeed reported, people with no COVID-19 symptoms may be spreading the disease — but big questions remain about how much they are driving the pandemic. We’ve known about asymptomatic people spreading the virus for a while but, somehow the governor of Georgia didn’t get the memo–his state has had the 11th highest incidence of coronavirus cases in the U.S. yet Governor Kemp is only expected to sign a statewide shelter in place order today.
In fact, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert, said he doesn’t understand why every state hasn’t issued stay-at-home orders as novel coronavirus cases continue to surge across the U.S.

by Natasha Lasky, ODP Staff Writer World Health Organization expert Dr. Peter Ben Embarek revealed this week that the organization’s team of researchers have found two scenarios that could have transferred COVID-19 to humans. He acknowledges that COVID-19 could have been transmitted through frozen products at the Wuhan fish market, but the most likely scenario […]
By Amy Lupica, ODP Staff Writer A new study published Monday has found that a second, sneezier plague is ramping up. Allergy seasons have increased in duration by an average of 20 days since 1990. Why? Rising temperatures and an abundance of atmospheric carbon are increasing the amount of pollen in the air, and researchers say the […]
