One Ocean Thing: There Is Only One Ocean!

Thanks to FOP, and world-renowned marine ecologist Jane Lubchenco, we are making a major correction to our story category “Oceans”– it will now be “Ocean.”  It turns out this is a very important distinction!  There is a major campaign afoot to educate the public that there is only one ocean and we all should “Drop the S.”   NOAA’s Ocean Facts page, which is the definitive source in our book, answers the question stating that there is only one global ocean with named ocean basins (see the NOAA animation below).  The Earth has one big ocean with many features — the five ocean basins may have different names but they are all connected.  And now we stand corrected!
