Last summer, 16 Bay Area ranchers joined forces to form the Bay Area Ranchers Co-op. BAR-C, a start-up hoping to challenge the unsustainable and monopolistic corporate meatpacking industry.

Workers In “Frontline” Jobs Are More Vulnerable To COVID

The meat industry has long been a target of climate critics and food safety advocates, and now its weaknesses are becoming even more apparent as workers in meatpacking plants (yes – the ones the President forced to remain open) are testing positive for COVID in huge numbers — 1600 are POSITIVE in 4 plants in Iowa alone.  And coal workers — who are already at high risk for lung and other injuries due to the treacherous conditions inside of mines — are similarly harmed disproportionately impacted by COVID, according to former officials at the federal Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA).
