Trump Says “You’re Fired” to 1,100 Workers in Conservation Job Training Program

The Washington Post reported that 1,100 workers employed by the U.S. Forest Service’s Job Corps Civilian Conservation Centers who train young people from disadvantaged rural areas in fire fighting and other similar trades will lose their jobs at the end of September when the Administration closes 9 offices and shifts the other 16 to the Department of Labor, eliminating more than a third of the positions — it is the largest single layoff of federal workers in nearly a decade.

I just heard from a longtime friend on the Hill that “soon” Congress will introduce a “Blue New Deal” in both chambers with support from the President and all ocean agencies. Congress and the Administration are joining forces to create a strategic, cost-loaded plan that will address ocean science and technology needs nationwide, bringing together federal agencies with their partners in academia, industry, state and local government, and NGOs to work on key common goals.
