Hi #FriendsOfThePlanet, we hope that you’re fully recovered from the Battle of Winterfell last night and ready to tackle this Monday (sometimes they just drag-on). Here’s a roundup of what should be on your radar this week:
- Capitol Hill: The House Natural Resources Committee will hold several hearings this week on Public Lands and Our Clean Energy Future on Monday, the State of Fisheries on Wednesday, and the progress of economic development in Puerto Rico on Thursday. Likewise, the House Energy and Commerce Committee will hold two hearings on Wednesday on pipeline safety and security and the Department of Energy’s mounting environmental cleanup costs.
- International: Japan’s Emperor Akihito is expected to step down on Tuesday giving his son, Crown Prince Naruhito, the throne. The Crown Prince is expected to champion environmental issues when he becomes emperor.
- Entertainment: The Kentucky Derby is this Saturday but could climate change be affecting Kentucky’s soil and its rye crops? If so, those mint juleps might be lacking without their signature Kentucky bourbon.
ICYMI: Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez revealed a new talent of hers all in the name of the Green New Deal.
