When East West Market in Vancouver, British Columbia attempted to get their customers to bring reusable bags and say no to plastic ones, they never knew that their big plan would backfire. The market began offering single-use plastic bags with embarrassing slogans that read “Wart Ointment Wholesale,” “Into the Weird Adult Video Emporium” or “The Colon Care Co-Op” to encourage customers to utilize reusable bags. However, people began flocking to the market, paying 5 cents each in hopes of collecting the designs. Store owner David Kwen has since put the joke logos on canvas totes that are available for purchase.
