Late night commentator Seth Meyers and MSNBC Anchor Chris Hayes both took a minute to make “light” of Secretary of State Pompeo’s speech at the Arctic Council Meeting on Monday in which Pompeo listed all the “blessings” that the melting ice provides. Hayes had a devastating riff on the speech noting the irony of Pompeo celebrating the warming Arctic after refusing to sign the group’s official statement because it discussed climate change. Hayes then went on to say that the Pompeo speech “is the Trump Administration in a nutshell. Bad faith, gaslighting, reckless destruction of the planet, combined with opportunistic profit-seeking and foreign policy threats to back it up.” Hayes then said, “It’s humiliating for Mike Pompeo and the entire nation, and it’s dangerous. History will judge it harshly if we manage to make it to history.” Wow – Sick burn. Meyers likened Pompeo’s climate optimism to saying “it’s great that my house burned down because now I can see the pool from my driveway.” LOL.
